Hydraulic jack plate

Just wantting to know more about a hydraulic jack plate 10" I have a 99 triton 180 with a johnson 150hp with a 23 pitch prop. two men, tackle and gear runs about 58mph. If i was to get a 10" hydraulic jack plate how much more top speed would i gain, would i be able to go to a bigger pitch prop and still have the hole shot that i have with the 23 pitch prop. Don't know much about the jack plates, please help!

100% impossible to answer that question... In theory a jack plate will give you zero top speed increase, if your motor is already at the highest safe running position. Chances are its not, because you have to be able to run at a variety of speeds. As far as pitch of prop, unless you start running a low water pick-up, you have other limiting factors before that. Jack plates won't affect your holeshot much, if you go with a larger prop, your holeshot drops. Hard to beat physics on that one... (of course, there are tricks like vented props that help somewhat.)

I would suggest going to a hydraulic jack plate on a brand new $50K bass boat, however you would need a high performance boat dealership and the correct propeller--total investment would be over $2,000.

You appear to be running pretty much at max speed right now. It just wouldn't be a good value for a 12 year old boat unless you've got some kind of handling or ride problem.

I believe both of you said it very well. I do believe that the boat is at a safe speed, just didn't know much about them, thanks for the money saved and for your input!
