I bought new lifters for my 5.0 (ford) engine. I noticed that they lifters are exactly the same except for the top and side oil feeds through them. Will this cause me any problems with my engine?

Re: Hydraulic lifter question

I'll post pics up later. They had them listed for ford/omc marine use on all ford 302 blocks.

Here are the pics. The new ones have the additional groove in the side of it and have a smaller side and top hole (new one is on left in upper picture and right one on bottom picture):

In the bottom pic, the original looks a bit longer (taller). Is that just an optical illusion?

Re: Hydraulic lifter question

It is just optical. It is because the grain of the tool pouch behind it is sloped downward. The sizes are exactly the same as far as heigth and diameter. Any issues with additional oil groove and smaller hole?

Re: Hydraulic lifter question

The only thing I can think of is if the larger holes are needed to deliver more oil since the engine runs at higher rpms more often...maybe? I was also looking at my heads and the rocker arms are solid where the push rods hit them so does that mean the oil through the push rod only lubricates the contact point of the pushrod to rocker arm???

Re: Hydraulic lifter question

Well, in case anybody ever has the same questions, I called the manufacturer of the lifters. They double checked the specs and there is no performance issues. They said if anything, it could be a smaller hole to limit the amount of debris that can potentially go into the lifters. They said the only thing they suggested is to submerge the lifters in a cup of oil to fill them full before install. Enough said.
