Hydraulic Steering Conversion

My bass boat is a 1990 Hydra Sport DV200 with a 1990 200XP. Got all the bugs out of the engine...runs like a screaming banshee. Steering was so tough, it took two hands to manuever...decided to go hydraulic. I started accumlating parts from different sources and ended with a really good deal on a Merc Verado helm. There are no fill ports on the helm, only left/right hose connections and power steering connections. Do any of you know if this helm requires a power pump to operate? If not, how do you fill it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. D

Hydraulic steering won't make it easier unless you change the ratio, i.e. more turns of the wheel from hardover to hardover. Hydraulic steering also provides no-feedback. It won't spin the wheel if you turn loose of it.

Now, the exception is if your cable steering is improperly installed with sharp or extra bends or something.

You said the magic word...go power steering if it is possible. I don't have that answer.
