Mine needs a top-up. I don't know what type of fluid is in it but I was told it takes a 10 wt. Will any 10 wt. hydraulic fluid work?
It's been low since I got it and I can't find any leaks.
Thanks

No wonder you have so many posts... :)
I don't want to mix different fluids and since I don't know for sure what's in it I'll drain and flush it. Then I'll refill the system with ATF. I carry spare ATF for my trans already...

Remember, you have to bleed all of the air bubbles out. I use a funnel with a 4' piece of hose that has a brass fitting that matches the threads of the plug at the helm. Just slowly turn the helm back and forth while the funnel and hose are full of fluid. Keep doing this until it stops bubbling and taking fluid.
Jim

Re: Hydraulic steering fluid

The factory fluid is an aircraft type hydraulic fluid. ATF is fine and will mix but the steering can become a bit stiffer in cold weather. Cold has no effect on the aircraft fluid obviously.
