There is a lot of information that can be found on hydraulic steering systems. When I was restoring my Starcraft I opted to go with hydraulic steering with plans on adding an autopilot in the future. In my application I found the hydraulic system to be wonderful. Super easy 1 finger steering and no wandering. Removing hands from the helm while underway she keeps her course. This is a plus for me when trolling as I can tend lines with nobody at the wheel and not worry about my boat wandering in circles. I feel this is a much nicer steering system than any cable system that I have had on other boats. I spoke not only with the manufacturer but also a couple of boat dealers to see if it was worth my investment. Would I do it again, certainly.
