I have a Seastar hydaulic steering system on a 1999 Wellcraft 210 Sportsman that I recently purchased. How often should I check the helm filling station to see if fluid is present? If no fluid can be seen can I just add fluid till it reaches the tread lines or do I have to bleed the system?

The Big O

Re: Hydraulic Steering Question

I check mine every time out and top off as necessary. There is no need to bleed the system if there is no air in the lines.

I have come close to being 5 miles out with two good running motors and on the edge of loosing my steering due to low fluid. Perhaps now I overdue it a bit. On the other hand is is one less thing to think about if checked before you head out.

Re: Hydraulic Steering Question

Thanks for your advice. I'll get in the habit of checking it before I head out each time.

The Big O
