Hi
My friends boat tends to wander. He was low on fluid and filled it.
Still not good. How do you bleed it? Any other things to check? Possible trim?
Any help welcome.
Thanks Rod

Re: Hydraulic steering Teleflex Star Brite Problem

there are bleeder valves at the engine end, similar to bleeding brakes.

is the boat a deep V hull, and does it just do it at slow speeds, if so that is just the nature of the beast. Manufactures have been trying to figure out how to stop it for decades.

what it amounts to is a difference in water pressure against each side of the hull at slow speed. it will usually correct itself. but do not over steer, or you will wear yourself out.

I haven't heard of the Star Brite system is this an I/O or Inboard boat? The assumption is that it's and Outboard.

I've only researched the BayStar, SeaStar and the SeaStar Pro. I just purchased the SeaStar Pro which is the higher pressure system. Not knowing the Star Brite system I can't tell you if you have a low or high pressure system.

As TD stated in his reply to you, the word on the street is that the drift problem does occur with the lower pressure transom mount systems but does not with the high pressure engine mount systems.

The old style low pressure rams are no longer sold in kits but replacements can still be bought. You might consider shooting an email off to teleflex and asking if they have an upgrade for your friends system.

The tell tale sign of a low pressure system is the use of low pressure "cut to fit" hoses and barbed style fittings with hose clamps.

Hi
Thanks for the info.
The boat is an outboard. This system does not use a pump.
