hydraulic steering

I've got a teleflex hydraulic steering system on two motors.
There is a small screw on cap on top of the steering column.
Should I see fluid when I take this off?
I can see some fluid on the gears, but it's not like the whole thing is full to the top.

yes, and you may need to bleed the system if it has air in it. there are bleeder valves on the motor end.

When bleeding, until all air comes out and then the fluid?

fill the tank, turn wheel all the way left, now open right bleeder, turn wheel to right, catch the fluid, close bleeder, turn left and refill, repeat until no air. now do the same turning right. very similar to bleeding brakes.

never turn the wheel with the system open, or you have to start over.
