Folks,

Getting ready to start mounting things and have been researching Hydraulic Steering, I have the following questions.

1) Is it worth the extra money?
2) I have a Suzuki 140, I was looking at the Baystar that has a top HP of 150, but doesn't seem to be rated for 60mph (which I think will be my top end), should I move up to the seastar?
3) What other manufacturers would any of you recommend?
4) I am thinking about getting a used unit, bad idea?

All help is greatly appreciated.

Peace.

Ed.

Re: Hydraulic Steering

Several things need to be looked at when considering which steering you'll need. The hydraulic is great in that it hides the torque in the wheel and you dont have to constantly hold it to stay on track.

You'll need to keep in mind hydraulic systems dont hold center as far as the wheel goes. That may cause the wheel to look funny sometimes and if youre considering a wheel moumted trim button, the cord will eventually get wrapped ariund the steering column.

If youre looking at a performance application you may want to look at the dual cable systems.

Re: Hydraulic Steering

Dhadley,

Thank you, not looking for wheel mounted trim.

Will be spending almost all my time in the flats here near Tampa Bay.

My concern about the HP rating is not necessarily about high performance, I am not sure (since this is the rebuild with new power) what my max speed will be and I just don't want to be under rated.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Peace.

Ed.
