Anyone ever changed the hydraulic hose running from the reverse valve to the transom connector down in the engine compartment on a merc? Mine is busted and it almost looks like a either need the local midget or pull the exhaust manifolds off the engine to get to it. I can't even see where it connects to the transom at. Any recommendations on changing this?

on my 74 140 there is an external manifold under the gimbal housing where the trim cylinder hoses connect. It's attached with 2 bolts. Pull it down and undo the fitting. There may be a clamp holding the hoses to the inside of the transom as well. You might want to replace both lines.

Yup. Just did it. Not too bad. It's easier if you remove your drive.

Remove the little manifold under the gimbal on the outside of the boat (2 nuts hold it on) - that's where the 2 lines from inside the boat go to the 4 lines to the rams.

Disconnect the one that goes to the valve. Tie a string on the end of the old hose to the inside end of the new hose.

Go inside the boat, lie on top of your engine looking down between the engine transom plate, you'll see where the hoses pass through the transom if you've removed your drive (the shaft will block your view if you leave it on, plus you won't be able to get your hand down there with it on) slowly pull the old hose and reach down between the engine and transom plate and pull the new hose in.

One caveat - I have thru hull exhaust so your exhaust may also block your view or make it hard to get your hand down there when you lie on top of the engine...

Thanks guys,
Glad to hear all the hoses connect to that one manifold on the exterior of the transom. I'll be doing it this weekend. Thanks again.
