i have a 1971 Johnson 50hp. It was stuck in forward gear after researching this site i found how to check it. Upon taking the controls apart i discovered that there is a 3 way switch under the control lever that makes it go from forward/reverse/neutral that is broke and i can't find one. I have heard the you can put a switch on the outside. does anyone have any idea on how to do this or if it can be done. Thanks

There is another toggle switch that I believe fits the Johnson Hydro-electric control box, but it doesn't have the start circuit in it. If you find one, double check the mounting hole dimensions and the toggle lever length just to be sure. You will have to install some sort of switch to close the start circuit, though.
