I have a 1971 Johnson 60 hp Hydro Electric motor.
I've finally got the motor running well, but under
load the motor seams to slip out of gear. The motor shifts fine to forward, neutral reverse, but when powered up, it seems that the unit slips in
and out of gear.
The lower unit was one of the first things checked out and has been completely taken apart and reassembled with new bearings and seals. All the gears looked good, not metal shavings or worn gears.
After a short run I changed the lower unit oil just as a precaution after having it apart. The oil was a bit dirty, but there were no shavings or grit in the oil after running. I am running the recommended lower unit lube for a hydro electric drive.

I have seen a couple of other posts with similiar problems, but most are having trouble getting into neutral or reverse. I have no trouble shifting.
I am using an old stainless prop, and have heard of problems under load with the props spinning free.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what might fix my problem.
Thanks
stringbox@technologystore.com
