Re: hydro foils

It might. Multitude of problems can cause planing issues. What prop are you using? What type of boat? Max WOT? Need more info.

Well, you came here for advice, we cant give it to you if you dont give use enough information. Maybe, just maybe we can offer a better solution if we had the numbers to play with.

Re: hydro foils

25 hp on a 17 foot fiberglass cabin cruiser sounds like it is very much under powered. Fin can really help slightly underpowered boats get on plane. However, if it is severly underpowered, it may not help.

What does the boat way? Do you have a picture?

Re: hydro foils

You would need a rocket booster to get a 25HP to plane that boat, James. Hydrofoil wont do it, Smart Tabs wont do it.

40HP might, but 50hp would be the minimum I would recommend.

Re: hydro foils

Don't think the foil will help much in that scenario. Too much boat for the motor. How about add another 25 beside it. Looks cool and having a backup motor is always a good idea. Then your 17ft boat will plane easily.

Jamesboater;

Everyone under estimates the effectiveness of trim tabs, and I bet that we could make that boat plane with Smart Tabs. It may take a special combo of actuators and plate size, but it can be done. And if you are willing to try it I am willing to put my money where my mounth is. call me at 800-233-0194.

Re: hydro foils

Always up for a challenge huh John ? I've got a 15ft kevlar canoe and no matter how hard I paddle I can't get it to plane out. Best I can do is create a small wake. Would trim tabs increase my paddling efficiency ? :D :D :D

(just kidding of course.....unless you think something IS possible ;) )

Re: hydro foils

A 50s/60s (no innerliner)lightweight 17' glass cruiser weighs around 600-800 lbs. The same vintage plywood cruiser weighed less. They all planed with old model 35hp engines so a newer 25hp at the prop might do it too. A foil should help but this is a rig that needs tabs.

What brand boat is it?
