Re: Hydro-Lock

Hydraulic lock is what you get when enough incompressible liquid (like water) gets into your cylinder to block the piston from reaching TDC.

Re: Hydro-Lock

Motorcycles were bad about doing this, if you laid them down.
Gas,oil, or water can do this.

Re: Hydro-Lock

I had this happen with a Johnson 70hp triple - carb float needles were a little worn and when the gas tank got warm on a sunny day, the fuel expanded, pressurized the tank and forced fuel by the float needles. The fuel puddled in the crankcase and at least one cylinder. Had to pull the plugs and blow it out to start the motor as it acted like it was locked up solid. Took a good half hour of head-scratchin' to figure it out... followed by a carb rebuild with new needles & seats.
- Scott
