If you're talking about a hydrofoil, finding the right size, is trial, & error.
A Doel fin is one of the smallest, and usually effective enough for most applications. A Stingray, or Whale tail, or others, are usually larger, depending on how much extra lift you need. Just remember the bigger the foil, the more drag as well. Pictures of the whole rig would help.

If you can mount them on your boat, do not even think about a whale tail type fin, You need Smart Tabs! I have had them on two different Bass boats and you will in no way be sorry!

"VERY" good hole shot:
Very stable ride, Boat will feel like a Porche:
No chine walk at all at any speed:
Ans as an added bonus the back wash will all but be eliminated!

try them they usually cause more problems than they solve. but some people are happy with them.

per the smart tabs, i put a set of the sx models on my '87 skeeter starfire sx150 this year. couldn't be happier - much better plane, i can plane at 10mph or so, and no bad effect on top-end. they work great and the support from nauticus is awesome.

best regards,
don

Just take it off and run it without it. Most boats don't need one and even "if" it could help, it's probably not set up correctly for it to be of any value.

Your probably right about the set up not being correct.I am kind of new to all this so i'm just trying to find out the best way to have it setup.Do you know the correct setting for the foils so i can give them a try, if there are problems i can just take them off quick(4 bolts to remove).
Thanx for all the input!

For correct setup the foil should be out of the water at speed. The negative opinions on them are mostly because it just gets bolted on with no other changes, if it's in the water at speed then it may handle funny and you may drop a couple MPH. You still may not need one though.
