I think I am going to install a hydrofoil to my 150 Otimax. I'm looking at a Stearns. They don't seem to be that expensive. Since it is basically a wing I figure they can't be too much different from maker to maker. Any info would be appreciated.

We all know what you mean is 2 sets of foils on the shelf. Your post could be taken two ways.

Re: Hydrofoil installation

Get the smart tabs.Foils can help hole shot and improve handling some. They can also reduce your speed, can cause squirly handling eat fuel, and in the extreme damage your antivent plate.
Smart tabs will inprove hole shot, improve ride, may improve top end, improve handling, and reduce no wake speed wander. They also have excellent tech support.

Re: Hydrofoil installation

On our little 10 foot invader, we had a sting ray jr and it made the boat a whole lot easier to handle. Removed the foil and added smart tabs and picked up a lot of speed and much better fuel use. Also the list to port went away. Smart tabs would be the way to go.

Get tabs. Foils are extremely hard on the anti-cavitation plate where you attach them.

Go to the Evinrude section and look at the thread that begins with "Fin broke....". Don't know if he was running one when it broke, but you can see the two bolt holes on the half that's left from a foil.
