Hydrofoil-Stabilzer question

I have a War Eagle 2072 alum. boat with a 115HP-4strk. engine. I have only taken it out a couple of times, and each time it takes a while to get it to plane-out. It raises up so much on initial acceleration that I must stand up to see where I am going.

Is a hydrofoil-stabalizer going to help, or should I go with something else. I am not sure that trimming the motor will help much, but I am a new owner and boater.

I would much appreciate some good advice.

-Redd Dogg

Re: Hydrofoil-Stabilzer question

Sounds to me like smart tabs could be a viable solution. Do some searching on them. Good product and you dont' have to control them. Just install and go. They'll do the rest. I wouldn't do the hyrdrofoil thing on a 20' but I guess you could. If you want control of the trim tabs, Bennett or Lenco are probably the 2 best. I have a pair of Lencos on my 22' and I love them.

Do you have power trim? If so, always start it with the trim all the way down. That will help push the bow down. then adjust up after you are on plane. It takes some practice and playing around to figure it out. Do a search on here, there have been alot of topics about them.

Re: Hydrofoil-Stabilzer question

the stabilizer will drop the bow down quickly.its a lot cheaper than the tabs which are the best.but for under $50.00 it will get u on plane real quick.worked for me with a 21ft.but id like to add tabs when the time is rite.hth

Re: Hydrofoil-Stabilzer question

see the thread by myoutboards on smart tabs-and the comments on hydrofoil fins.

I've got fins fitted to my 16'. They work quite well but they have to be at exactly the right height or they'll slow you down. From what's been said on here about smart tabs I'll be changing over to them ASAP though.

Nos4r2;

Please remember to remove the hydrofoil. Also you will notice a significant change in the ride and handling. If you do not pick up at least 2 MPH in top speed the pressure adjsutment needs to be reduced. Not the deployed angle but the pressure.

Re: Hydrofoil-Stabilzer question

A foil will only work well if it is completely out of the water once planed off. It should help a lot in popping the stern out of the water but if the motor is mounted low enough that the foil remains under water after planing off it will hurt performance. Yes you should be trimming all the way down for take off then trim back out once underway.
