Hydrographic or Nautical?????

Hi,

Well I must say, this is an AWESOME!!!! forum for boating enthusiasts of all calibers...There is an infinite amount of knowledge and help to be had in here and I am happy to have found iboats.com..

I have a cadet question. I am looking to snag some graphical info on desired lakes and I was wondering what the difference is between the two types of maps.

I am looking for bottom characteristics(gravel, weeds and sand) as well as water depths and hidden structure(humps, drop offs and unnatural structure).

i;m pretty sure they are the same thing,
Just different words for the same map.

And i found it next to impossible to find maps for lakes, anything not connecting the the ocean. If large vessels do not travel on it, they are not going to make a nautical chart for it.

Don't forget to look for charts at local fishing supply stores.

NOAA has a map for just about everything. Click on the one you want, use tools to zoom, can be printed for reference.

Thanx for all the insight guys....I have found a couple sites one that sells Hydro's for $10.00 CAD per laminate, which I thought was quite reasonable...

Thanx for the live link LongLine. There are quite a few inland lakes in Ontario of interest and they do have what I am looking for...

Bard1...I checked out Maptech and they seem to cater to shore and offshore of the oceans's which are of no use to me...I do appreciate the help...

I will check out my local fishing supply stores as suggested OldePharte...I have a few places in mind already and there were a couple named on adventurefishingmaps...This is a nice site. Their maps come with fish hotspots, migration patterns and concentrated areas of certain species...Pretty cool I thought..
