Hydrolic steering help!!

i have a teleflex hydraulic helm. Long story short, when I turn the wheel, the helm seems to "jump", meaning its not a smooth spin to get my motors to turn. (these are twin outboards). As i turn it almost feels as if something is "grinding" inside the helm. Now it was fine all last season, I am praying it is just air?? Has anyone ever heard of this problem and have a solution?
Like i said it feels as if something is grinding and at the same time you can feel the helm build pressure, then almost like lose it, it seems to be loose. No leaks, so I don?t think I lost any fluid, what should I do to narrow this problem?!?! Like I said I PRAY its air but I need your thoughts just need help!!
