Hydrolocked on blue flush hose?

I have a 2008 5.0 GXI-J, that would start a few seconds and die. The fuel pump had gone bad (low pressure tested and filled with paint and sand when taken apart). I purchased an aftermarket one (Not Volvo) and after installing the new fuel pump and priming for about 5 key turns, The engine would not turn over, it sounded like the starter was stopped and would turn over super slow and then stop again. I suspected bad battery, switched out battery and had same result. At the same time I noticed new fuel pump leaking from cast steel on the top, not any fittings. New pump is arriving in a few days. I checked the batteries and they were fine. I took plugs out and tried to turn it over and 1 or 2 of the cylinders spewed out what looked to be a ton of gas, it didnt really look like water. I did have the blue flush port hooked up when trying to crank it after putting new fuel pump in. Oil is also very overfilled now. I suspect some sort of hydrolock and gas or water in oil. I am replacing plugs and changing oil. I have a few questions?

Is it possible to get engine hyrdrolocked while only hooked up to the hose?

Does it look like fuel or water when you crank a hydrolocked engine with plugs out?

Thanks and any input is greatly appreciated..

I`ve got the same engine but have never had your symptoms so I am replying just because I know that engine. Cant see how you went from a bad fuel pump to being hydrolocked so quickly. Maybe a coincidence. It would be possible to hydrolock on the flush port if you had a bad head gasket, but seems like you would have noticed the bad head gasket before with the old fuel cell.
I would get a good fuel cell and drain and refill the engine oil and dry out those cylinders. Check your fuel pressure regulator and make sure that it is functioning and not clogged.

Now this is very interesting. I dont know if you seen my recent "water in oil" topic. I have water in my oil this year and this also the first time I ever ran it on the flush port too. Always used the muffs before.

Thanks for the input BRICH1260 I am hoping it is not a head gasket, however I cant seem to figure out another reason why it would hydrolock when running on the hose. New fuel cell in this weekend and will give it another shot.

corvettedude I read your post. Interesting with flush port issue also.

Hi

all I can think of is that you had initially and or currently an injector issue. If the injectors are staying open, they will pump fuel into the cylinder and certainly lock it up.
Could this have been your original issue before the fuel pump ?
Havent heard of it happening on these before I don’t think, but not impossible. Would perhaps be a sign of either bad injectors or the ecu causing injectors to do it. Could test the voltage at each of them or manually operate them by supplying a voltage. Sure sounds like it might be something along these lines.

Got new fuel cell, put new plugs in, and changed the oil as the oil was overfilled by about a quart and half with fuel. I previously thought this was a hydrolock issue, but it was flooding and had fuel instead of water. Boat started and ran with no issues. Going to do another oil change to get all the fuel out of the oil and monitor closely. Not sure what would have caused me to have that much fuel in the oil. I am suspect of a bad injector as you pointed out QBhoy . Regulator looks fine, no paint or debris on it and previous owner must have moved screen and added clip already.

Maybe it was just a bad fuel cell and you have fixed it. Keep us updated what happens going forward.
