1984 mako 20C .

i just got the boatlast month and dont really know all the history. boat has HYNAUTIC brand hydraulic steering. (i assume its origonal??)

its got the single cylinder that threads onto the tilt tube of the motor, wich in this case is a 1994 merc 200hp 25" offshore.

i just got brand new lifetime hoses made from goodyear to replace all the old brittle steering hydraulic lines.

problem is the boat, at idle speeds will turn fine in both directions, and on plane will turn fine to the right, but wont turn at all to the left untill i power back down.

is this system ok with 200 hp . do i have too much thrust against the transom at anything above idle?

im new to hydraulic steering. im open to any ideas or suggestions

mike

Re: hyrdaulic steering help

Sounds like it could be a problem with a check valve? With my hydraulic steering, under certain conditions I can hear a valve inside the pump rattling as the force from the outboard fluctuates.

Tads
