So i started going to MMI and have been at if for about 6mos. I have been looking for job oppurtunities for entry level techs here in FL and have seen only one in the 6mos. i have been looking. You have to have be certified or have a ton of experience. How do you get experience without a job. Am i not looking hard enough or in the right places. Anyone have any advice for me when i get out of school as to what direction i should be looking to be as successful in this business as possible. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

You need to be humbled. No matter what your education, you might have to scrub floors to get in somewhere, and then use your skills/education to work your way up.

I'd think you're definitely not looking hard enough/or in the right places. First things first: get with the employment placement office of your school and they'll have a list of dealerships/etc. that they send graduates to. Also, Philster said, I'd try and start now doing whatever was available in order to get my foot in the door while I was finishing up my education. The job's out there, you've just got to find it.

you walk in and ask to speak with the service manager or the owner.... You explain that you are in school and training to be a tech and that you would like to get some hands on experience... also stress that you will do ANYTHING they have an opening for and that you will work cheap. If you are good and constantly offer to help you won't be just washing the boats for long.

Good luck toonin, It's hard to find work in any area right now but don't beat yourself up over it. IT WILL COME.
I wish you the best of luck.

Have you considered placing ads locally? Maybe work on your own for a while.

Also are we talking about I/Os and outboards? If so you could start buying motors that need work, fixing them up and selling them.

Good luck to ya!
