I am having some fuel issues, need an opinion on a tank test

I have an airbound system. I need to find the leak, it is somewhere between the tank and the engine. Can I use an electric fuel pump to pull the fuel without running the engine to see if I can find air in the line? I will put the pump after the water seperator and filter then just run it into a can, Will this create enough draw to show the air leak?

I am going to test the system per the jason and dons post in the adult only. But would rather not have to run the engine to do it. Would this work?

Yes that should work if you use an electric fuel pump with a clear hose you should beable to see the air bubbles. If you are sucking air, I would think you would also have fuel leaking somewhere.

I am thinking it is either a small crack in a fuel line or a bad pickup tube

yamaha makes a really nice fuel system in a box.
it consists of an electric pump,a flow meter a vacum guage and a throttling valve to adjust flow.
can be made rather simply.
flow meter part gets pricey.
we use it to draw fuel at the engine lift pump intake hose and the outlet fuel goes back in the tank.
that way we can test fuel system vacum at a known fuel flow rate.
if system vacum is to high we start moving the test pump hose inlet backwards down the fuel system until we find the restriction or air leak.
all fits in a nice little box and is considered an essenstial tool so all yamaha dealers got one shipped to them automatically.
