compression is 140/150 on each cylinder. when i got it, the carbs were in need of a good cleaning, so i did that.

so, after cleaning the carbs, the motor idles great in and out of the water.
it tried to move the boat to speed, but it just bogged. for reference its a 1984 malibu(dixie fiberglass products) 15' sorta tri hull/V. It was equipped with a 19 pitch prop.

so, i checked out some prop selectors and they told me with a simililar boat i need a 15 pitch for speed or a 13 pitch for watersports. I bought a 15 pitch, and preformance improved a little. if i step forward of the console, the boat will plane and run ok. do yall think i need a 13 pitch prop, or is something wrong in the motor even though it idles great?

Does it have a tach? Does it get up to the rated max rpm?

the dixie made boat is a great boat. you may be just a little under powered. i had a 50 on a 15 footer, put some weight in the bow, also did you do the high speed jet when cleaning? what year is it again?

how about good spark? check it with a spark tester, make sure it jumps a 7/16 gap.

remove the air silencer on the carbs, then pump the primer bulb really hard. watch and see if the carbs are running over. the float needle may not be closing all the way, and at higher rpms, the fuel pump could be overloading the carbs. it's a long shot, but would cause the problem. also if there is a pin hole in the fuel pump diaphram, it will leak gas into the intake causing the problem.
