I have a 1985evinrude 150 hp and my power packs have gone bad.I bought 2 new ones today but they werent the correct ones. They dont have the 3 wires coming out of the power packs like the old one do that go to the coils. I was told they will still work but id have to get a harness that plugs into the male end of the wires that come out of the new packs i bought and it will have the 3 connectors on it to go to the coils on the other end. Anyone know what this wiring harness is called and/or where i can get it?.

Huh??? I don't have the slightest idea what the answer is , but the whole thing sounds fishy to me. How are you going to fire three coils from two power pack outputs? Maybe something I don't understand, but I'd have to see that.

EDIT: I must be going goofy. I don't know where I got the idea that you said it only has two coil wires from the pack. Re-reading the question, it doesn't say that at all. Sorry about my reply.

I have 2 power packs. 1 for the 3 one the left side and 1 for the 3 on the right side. the old coils have three wires that come out of it. 1 for each coil. the new ones i bought have a male connector in the place of the 3 wires. Its supose to plug into a female side that has the 3 wires that connect onto each coil.

I went out and looked at my 87 150hp and the only thing I can think of is that you have the wrong power packs; mine has the 3 wires to go directly to the coils. Something is fishy about what you have as FR says.

No kind of wire harness will work if you a pack for a two cyl, You have a timer base that fires six cyl. So the packs you have are short one wire.

Is there a part # on the packs you have?.

No, the power pack I have is for a v6. Its for a 1984 150 v6. From what a few people have said they changed the style packs. Mune has the 2 connectors for the pack to conect to the stator and whatever else it connects to up top, it has a small ground wire and it has a third male end connectir that has 4 wires in it that from what he said cobnects to a female end that has three wires wires for the three coils. The ones that are on it has the three wires that run out of the actual powet pack. 1 to each coil. I need to find the harness for a 84 that has connects to the pack for the 3 coils.

OK I see what you mean, you have three single wires that go to the coils on a 85, the packs you have for 84, have a single plug with three pins. I have been a tech for 22 years. there is no such harness. Your going to have to do some wire splicing, you would have to buy.

on the parts break down in order to make these packs work, the 84 used a single post coil while the 85 used a two post coil.

I find it pretty strange that both packs are gone at the same time. Usually only one goes out.

Woody66912- thank u so much. You have no idea how long I was waiting for someone that knows what im talking about. Lol would u be ok with me contacting you by phone for help with this? The plug it has on the pack has 4 wires. I guess one is the ground? I was gona ground that to the block and splice the wires and connect the others to the coil. Will that work?

I think 1 pack was going out a while ago and the other just went out. But I do have crapy luck so I wouldnt be suprised if they both did go bad at the same time. Lol

Order them from www.crowleymarine.com

FYI don't touch the positive battery cable to the negative. It'll blow your power packs. Just in case that happened.

Dude your all over the place hear. The only wires you need to splice is the orange wires, the plug you speak of is the TIMER BASE connector, don't splice into that. The pack has four leads.
two browns pined in one plug/ these are charge coil. AKA in-put
one plug with, purple/green/white/black with yellow tracer. AKA in-put.
one plug with three orange wires. AKA output. (The ones you need to splice)
And one black that goes to engine ground.............
