I think I need a thermostat for my 75 evinrude 40hp. It is a model 40555C. I looked on iboats and they don't show a 40hp for that year. I am stumped. By the way I bought one of those seloc online manuals for the motor and I don't find it in ther eithher.

That's because a 1975 40hp doesn't have a thermostat. Guess you don't need one after all, huh?

Re: I can't find evinrud part number

That's the best answer I have had all day. I have looked and looked at the drawings and haven't found one. But someone told me it had one, so I believed them until I had heard differently. Thanks! I guess it probably isn't getting water because of a bad impellor then, huh. But I wonder why did it pump water the first time it ran after about 10 seconds, but not the next time after it had run 30 seconds or more. I wonder if the water is making it where it needs to go. ANy help would be nice here

Are you running it on muffs or in the water? Lower unit deep enough if run in a barrel?

Yes it is plenty deep in water. It sprayed water once the first time I tried it, but it didnt start spraying water for about 10 seconds. I just tried it for the third time and no water whatsoever is coming out. I did take the hose and spray from the exhause side in to the motor and lots of water did come out of the screen on the bottom of the motor where it should be picking water up from. I wonder if the impellor was dry rotted and it ran for a few seconds and then just fell apart and now needs a new one. Does this seem logical?
