I can't resist. It's kind of long, but it happened to me!

Way to go Milo. Telling on yourself. Inspired me. I had been looking for a boat all summer. My wife came home from work one day and told me that a friend of ours was selling his boat. Getting ready for retirement (didn't want the payment). We went and checked it out. It was a bit nicer than what I'd been looking for. It's a 17' Fish Rite Performer. All welded aluminum hull with a 120hp outboard. I decided I wanted to test drive it before I bought it, and we had to take it to the marina for an appraisal anyway. So on Friday, September 13th, I picked up my friend Skip and the boat. On the way to the lake he said, "this probably ain't a good idea. It's Friday the 13th you know". I've never been superstitious, and wouldn't have even known if he hadn't mentioned it. So we get to the lake. Which was really low this summer (only avg. 7' deep in a normal year anyway). Right at the mouth of the marina, we smack a rock with the lower unit. Yikes. Tilt the motor. Everythings cool. Not even a scratch. Now I've been fishing on Klamath Lake probably 50 times, but always at the North end of the lake, so I told Skip he'd have to tell me where to go. He gave me a spot across the lake to point at, and away we go. We get about a mile from the marina and Skip tells me to open the throttle up. I did. Made some nice "S" turns etc. Boat feels really nice. We see this 55gal drum painted blue/green. I asked Skip what it was about. He said, "No Idea". At that exact instant (we were doing about 50mph), we became airborne. Yea, we came about 5 feet of the water and flew what seemed like a mile before we landed. When we did, we we like a pinball until we came to an abrupt halt. Did I mention that it was a perfectly glass smooth day, and we get so much algae in the water that visibility is about 1/10". yea, we were sitting in about 4 inches of water on a boulder field. Pretty ugly. After several hours we were able to nurse the boat back to the marina and onto the trailer. I was pretty upset. Skip couldn't even look at the boat as I pulled it out of the water. I jumped under and expected to see massive destruction. None... One 4" long scratch near the keel. Only about 1/8" deep though. Nothing to fret about. The guy at the marina new Skip and had a real good time. We told him what had happened. His first comment was, "God, everybody knows there's a reef right there". His second comment (I thought Skip was going to choke him to death) was, "well, I guess the price went down this morning huh?". I ended up buying the boat. But I did buy him a new prop. before owning it :D
