I bought a '81 Yukon Delta 26' house boat that has a Volvo 280 outdrive and this motor which hasn't ran in many years. I've already changed motor oil but I need to know type this motor so I can order parts...impeller, plugs, etc.

That looks like a B20 motor which is surprising it's in a 1981 boat since it was discontinued in and around 1976.

If it's the B20, it's likely an AQ130 or similar

Are you sure it's a 280 drive and not a 270?

Just so you know, the difference between the B20 motor which is a pushrod motor and the later B21 and B23 motors which are OHC motors is that the B21/B23 have cross flow heads so the intake is on the port side of the engine and the exhaust is on the starboard side. On the B20, both exhaust and intake are on the starboard side.

Good call Bruce.
These engines are very economical and easy to service as all you need is common tools and not metric. If the carberators ever need service be sure to synchronize the throttle blades otherwise it will not run well at or above idle.

No Title

You're right, just found out that the boat is between '72-'77 model year and it is a 280 outdrive.
Thx

The ID plate is to the right and slightly below the fuel pump. Because of the steel fuel line, alternator with integral voltage regulator, and the fact that it's mated to a 280, I suspect that it's a 130D. As Kenny mentioned, these engines are reliable and easy to work on. No choke on the carbs so keeping it in tune is a must. Carbs are easy to rebuild but intolerant of debris in the passages. Tune up parts are surprisingly expensive. I went with an electronic switch replacement for the points and it's much easier to start and perform maintenance. I use Hot Spark but there are other brands out there.

Let us know how you're doing with it.
