Im going to look at a 1990 Aquasport Center Console in the morning.
Its powered by a 1990, 90HP Mariner.

1st. Is Mariner a good outboard, or is it just as good as any other outboard??

2nd. Whats the connection with Mercury and Mariner??

The Mariners were originally a Japanese made motor up until about 1988-89. Not a very good reputation.

The newer Mariners are clones of the Mercs. Same motor, just different packaging. Engine parts are directly interchangeable.

I think the Merc Clone effect was eariler for the higherhp engines. my 84 90hp is a grey Merc and I think that goes back to the mid to late 70's at least for the 75 inline 4 and inline 6's. I could be wrong though.
