1985 115hp Johnson. Yes, that engine has two (2) thermostats, however for some unknown reason to me, they're called vernatherms.

The hoses that are attached to the cylinder heads are attached to the thermostat housing. Within that housing are the thermostats, water bypass valves, springs, etc.

i have the heads here in front of me.. there is a hose connection at the bottom of the head but no bolts or screws of anykind. just goes strait into the head . the only other thing is the sensor or something with a wire attached to it. thought that was a heat sensor is that the thermastat? model j115tlcos johnson 1985 115 hp serial# 07071173 ty joe let me know what else to look for please.i have the engine torn down to the last screw. getting the heads bored out this week.i have lots of questions..should i have the motor block dipped in cleaner to open and oil passages if there are any.this will be like a new motor when im done.any secrets please share them with me lol

You've misread my reply. Follow the hoses that are attached to the heads towards the center of the engine. The other end of those hoses are attached to the thermostat housing.
