So, what do you think?!? Should I bite the bullet and abandon I.E.??? Honestly, it's a little scary thinking about no I.E. Are there any significant issues with Firefox that I should consider as a reason why not to use it instead of I.E.?

You don't have to quit using, you can have both on your machine at the same time.

I use Firefox 99% of the time. There are a few times I can't get a plugin to work right and I use IE for those pages only.

There's no need to bite a bullet, it's entirely painless. Download it and try it out. If you don't like it there's nothing lost. If you do then find some extensions that suit you.

I use Fire Fox for everything except Microshaft updates! Since I switched I have had no problems with spyware etc, besides I love the tabbed browsing, and you can even import your IE bookmarks!

That is exactly right. Firefox is almost identical to IE minus all the security holes. I can't get some plugins to work with FF so I use IE for those only.

You can import IE bookmarks. Please bite the bullet. It's also faster, it's a smaller less complex program so it will open faster on your machine. Cool huh?

I would look into Mozilla Thunderbird as well. Again, it's a smoother, better program that is almost cosmetically (meaning, to your eye) identical to Outlook Express. Trust me I've been using IE for almost 10 years, I've switched in the past few months and regret not switching sooner!

Re: I.E. vs. Firefox

Well, I switch to Firefox yesteday after Rolmops told me to. :) Don't regret it yet, except that on some websites I get prompted to download a plugin such as Flash or something. Don't know why the Flash enabled website was viewable with IE.

I will have nothig to do with Outlook or Outlook Exp. Tried Eudora but had all of my archived email wiped off the disk by that program; so it's not allwed to play on my computer anymore, either.

Gmail is the way to go for personal email. Don't think it's got enough umph for business appliacations.

Re: I.E. vs. Firefox

I used to be like many here and switch between forefox and IE. I stumbled upon Opera a few months ago and havent used anything since. The tab features are great. I have 10 web sites open right now and to switch I can simply hold the right mouse button down and scroll to any web page I have open. Its also nice in that if you close it down by accident and you have stuff you wanted to bookmark tec.......you have the option to resume all the pages when you restart the browser. For example iboats was the last thing in my browser when i closed it and then when i restarted my computer and opened Opera, it went right back to it.

For me at least it is also much faster than the other two.

Re: I.E. vs. Firefox

I dumped Opera a couple years ago because of the lack of support for pop up stoppers, cookie blockers, etc. I think Opera has been around longer than Firefox. Perhaps it is worth another look, presumig they have updated the product.

Does Opera still have the advertisement window with ads, similar to Eudora?

Fwiw, the tabs feature is also avialable on Firefox. Haven't seen I.E.7 but supposedly it has a whole new face-lift, new features, more flexibility... Yeah, that's what MS always says just before they release a major s/w update to fix bugs and plug security leaks.

I know, but I find the way Opera uses them more convienient......although they do much the same thing.

FWIW I havent had a single pop-up with Opera. Also, Opera has a "magic wand" feature that fills out forms for you. It remembers passwords if you want....but goes a step further. I have mine set to remember my name and address and phone number etc..........great for filling out forms.
