I feel soooo stupid

Ok, third times a charm. Maybe I can get this to post this time.

It all started when I ordered some Smart Tabs. The gas struts they came with were too stiff so the sent me new, softer struts in the mail. I installed them the other day, but haven't had a chance to test their performance yet. Well, the weather was nice today so I decided to check them out. I got to the ramp and launched the boat with no problems, even though it was my first time doing this by myself. Parked the truck and back in the boat, I primed the bulb, fired it up and off I went down the no-wake canal that leads to the river. About 500 yards out the engine starts running rough. I throttle up a bit and it promptly dies. Great. I try to get it restarted, I choke it, unchoke it, throttle up, throttle down, nothing. Great!

Ok, fine, I'll just paddle back to the ramp and go home. While I'm paddleing I thank God I was in a no-wake zone or I would have had a longer way to paddle. Back at the dock I retrieve the boat and head home thoroughly dejected that my brand new boat was dead.

Back home my sweet little wife comes out and asks "Well, how do they (the tabs) work?" I explain why I'm back home so soon and stomp off to get the flush muffs, then to the hose reel. Removing the garden sprayer I discover that the water is turned on. Great.

Soaking wet I finally get the muffs on the lower unit and stand up where my eyes land on the strangest thing I've seen all day. The fuel line. It's unplugged. How could this have happened??? How could I have missed it once, much less the dozen or so times I looked over the motor and stuff while I was in the water.

Now I'm just on the verge of freaking totally out. Sweet Dee doesn't ask why I'm banging my head on the back of the boat, I believe that she just remembered something in the house that required her immediate attention because thats where she went.

I plug in the fuel line, prime the bulb, turn the water back on and hit the ignition. Great balls of fire....it fires right up! Great. Now I just want to go back to bed. I'm sure there is some good in this somewhere.....isn't there??

Kind of like me accidentaly hitting the kill switch, not realizing it, and cranking, cranking, cranking, cranking ......more cranking etc...
The third time this happened, I remembered to check the kill switch! Fires right up with the kill switch in the correct position!
Live and learn!

I forgot to tighten the gas cap on my pressurized fuel tank. It did the same thing. I won't forget again, especially since I told my Dad and he now reminds me as a joke.

To Soulwinner;

Let me know the results. Never over trim with Smart Tabs. Glad you got the lighter Actuators. Remember you should pick up 2 to 4 mph in Top Speed, besides low speed performance. Make your first Top Speed Rund without the Tabs by disconnecting the Actuator at the top and tying them up with a cord so that the tabs do not work. Then reconnect the actuators and make the same run. If the boat is not faster, reduce the lift pressure at the plate bracket only.

look forward to hearing how you make out.

The good thing about a problem like that is the feeling of relief you get when you solve it!
