Re: i found out i dont have choke what now
it doesnt have any butterflys for choke and nothing moves when pushing on the key what is the fast start on this johnson how do i know if its working plust the safty kill switch doesnt work would this have anything to do wit it thanks
There are no butterflies and nothing will move when you activate the primer solenoid. You do not have a choke at all. The primer system actually injects fuel directly into the motor without the motor running or even turning over.
When you pump the bulb that creates pressure in the line as it fills the carb bowls. When you activate the primer solenoid, which is basically a valve, it allows fuel to be injected into the motor. As long as you hold the key in the fuel will continue to inject until the line pressure drops.
The Quick Start feature is a part of the ignition that allows the motor to rev up slightly until it warms up. When you start the motor it will idle at 1100-1200 or so by itself, much like your car or truck. As it warms up the idle will come down and then you can shift into gear normally.
If the kill switch doesn't work you need to have that fixed. If you have a boat with a foot throttle we'll assume it's a boat capable of higher speeds.
