NAPA had the Sea Foam just like Hootie said! Now... Do I pour it in the spark plug hole? The can says slowly pour into the carb with motor running. I can't keep the motor running long enough to pour it down the carb...or....in the carb as the case may be. Motor gets choked out really easy. I also seem to have excess fuel coming out all 3 carbs. I cleaned 2 of the carbs, would running the Sea Foam through the fuel system possibly help with that too? Yes, I am still an amerature at this marine stuff.
I am a Jet engine mechanic. USAF won't let me borrow an engine to put on my boat.
By The Way,
This is still the same 1978 evinrude 75 Horse Motor. (I keep forgeting to put that in.)

Ron
The Fishin Musician!

If you can't run the engine you can pour it in the spark plug hole one cylinder at a time. I believe its best to have the piston up far enough to cover the intake and exhaust ports so it doesn't all drain out immediately. You would want it to set a while overnight would be good. Either way its not going to do any benefit to the carbs themselves.

I meant it won't do the carbs any good when you pour it in the engine to decarbon. It may help keep them clean but I don't believe it will clean a dirty carb even if its put in the gas.

The Can does say carburetor cleaner...How about if I mix it with a gallon of gas and oil mix then run it through the motor? would that work ok? That is if I can keep it running.

Ron

RMedus,

Be carefull if you try to mix it with the gas. You want the total volume of the gas and seafoam to be one gallon, then add the appropriate amount of oil for that gallon. You could also post the volume of the seafoam you plan on mixing with exactly one gallon and I'm sure someone can tell you how much oil to mix with it. You don't want to run the engine to lean on oil. Good Luck!! :)

James

I now have a running engine!! I blew alot of crap out the exhaust and the engine runs much better. I spoke with one of my co workers and he suggested one ounce of sea foam to a gallon of gas along with 2.5 ounces of 2 cycle oil. Does that sound about right?

Ron

Re: I found the Sea Foam

Decarbing is a 2 part process. One preventative, done by using a fuel additive to prevent carbon build up. SeaFoam is such a fuel additive and can be found at most auto parts stores. It works as a fuel system cleaner and should be used as a preventative maintenance procedure.

If your intent is REMOVE the existing carbon buildup from the cylinders, heads, and rings, then a spray decarb solvent product is needed. Buy at least 2 cans of decarb. Some people use one can per cylinder.

Run engine at fast idle, with engine running
spray liberal amount into each carb,
spray some more, spray a larger amount into carbs until engine chokes out and stops,
remove spark plugs and spray decarb liberally into each cylinder, install the spark plugs, let it soak for 1 to 12 hours.
Start the engine and run at medium throttle, or if at the lake, run it at full throttle. It won't hurt to spray some more through the carbs. Run it for atleast 10 minutes to flush the crud out of your engine. Now remove and clean or replace the spark plugs.

Yes, your gas/oil mixture is correct.
