I finally found an old outboard, not exactly what I wanted but it's something to tinker with, it's turns over and has good compression, I have not checked it for spark yet, I spent the last couple of days trying to research it and figure out what year it is, it looks like it's a 1946 the serial number is 4404-18992

here's a few pictures of it, I know the front face plate is not the correct one for this motor, and the recoil starter is gone, but I'm watching for parts on ebay and sooner or later, something will show up.

I don't think these Zephyrs are all that popular, but if I can get it cleaned up, repainted and running, I'd think it might be a fun little motor to mess with, it wouldn't be an every day runner for the boat, but something to take out once in a while just for the fun of running an old motor.

here's the front face plate that I got with it, that primer button in the upper left corner isn't supposed to be there, so I'll see if I can find a faceplate that doesn't have that primer button

The Zephyrs have a mixed reputation in the vintage circles. Some guys love 'em, some hate 'em. I think they're kind of interesting, in that they're the smallest 4-cylinder outboard ever made! There was a guy in New England who took two of them, welded the crankshafts together and made a 10hp, 8-cylinder! Ran it with straight exhaust and an automotive distributor. Strangest sounding outboard you've ever heard!

Of course, if you got really bored, you could build one of these!
