That WON'T clean. Off a 1984 44ci Merc.

I tried soaking, spraying, etc etc and it STILL won't let me use the idle circuit. Fuel pump on it is rebuilt. Carb seems fine, but the idle circuit is hosed. It works fine off the main circuit. Anyone got a good used WMA1-x carb? Seriously. I'm done screwing with this one. I'm beyond frustrated. And I've cleaned 100's of carbs.
-W

It's a 1984 50hp four cylinder. The carb is one of the ones with the fuel pump as part of the carb. I think they (the carbs) first appeard in the mid-late 70's. Carb has sat for 8 years. Top carb is fine, this is the bottom one. If I can replace it, I'm gonna put a bullet in it and mount it - I'm serious. :(

-W

Sounds like there is a serious clog (varnish or debris build-up) that needs a blast of compressed air to clear. Hit every passage you can find. Inject some carb cleaner and blow again and clear.

I did - 3 times now. I found a replacement cheap. My time is worth more than the carb from hell was. I've cleaned a zillion carbs, this one was truely posessed.

-W

Hi Clams,
I will take a look - pretty sure I've got one of those carbs somewhere. Most of my 44s use the Tillys so you are welcome to it... Might not be until next weekend though when I get back up to the shop...
- Scott

Thanks very much Scott, but already I found me a replacment pair and will just use the bottom one and keep a spare.

-W (I hope this carb wasn't an omen as to what my spring season is gonna be like)
