and the log won. My boat is 6 weeks old and I am sure it hurt me alot more then it hurt the prop but,

The prop does have a nice dent in it. The boat does not seem to vibrate when I am running. After I hit the log I ran it at about 4000rpm, WOT is 5500rpm. Am I going to do any damage to the motor running like this until I can get a replacement prop. I would like to take it out this weekend, but I can not find a prop locally. Best anyone can do is next week?

A bent prop is not going to do your lower unit any good, no matter how little or easy you run it.

Will you permanmently hurt it????? Would I run it for a couple of days, probably. I can't see the extent of the damage to the prop.

I encountered a rock with my new boat.
The rock won!

I tore 1 blade off completly and 2 others were badly damaged. I had 1 good blade left, and it still got me back to the dock with little vibration.

Personally I would buy a new prop and get yours repaired. This way you will have an extra in case those elusive logs stalk you again! (-:

I wouldn't run a bent prop at all. The vibration can be killer on bearings and such..

I found a place on the internet who repaired mine for $50. Belive me, if they can fix my mess, then yours shouldn't be a problem!

My new prop was $240. Having an extra is money in the bank if you think you're gonna be in questionable waters.

H.

I agree, I need a new prop, and have this one repaired for a spare. But I hate to waste a three day weekend and not use the boat. I am not having any luck finding one in stock. I just want to get thru the weekend. I am not sure I want to risk it at this point.

Take the prop to your dealer or outboard repair shop. They probably have the right tools to hammer the dent out without loosing the right pitch. It should take them about 5 minutes.
Good luck.

I have used pirhana props for a couple of years, the blades are replacable so when I do hit something I just change the blades that are bad. It is also some kind of composite material that breaks away when you hit something lessoning the chance of lower unit damage. Hub is warranted forever and blades only cost 17.00 bucks. I run a 70 horse johnson. last year I really wacked it a good one on a log and took out all 3 blades. Took about 10 mins to replace them and on my way I went.

If it is a aluminum prop I would take it off get the hammer and get it as straight as you can. Take a file and take burrs off and have a good low speed weekend. I don't think I would try it on a stainless steel prop. I straightened my first prop and then was going to have it repaired but it was so good I never did. However I did go to a stainless of a 2 inch different pitch and now only use old prop for a spare.
