Really wasnt too sure how to search for this question.

I have very limited space in my SeaRay 240, w 5.7 Mercruiser 260. Changing oil is a pain in the ....

I have the oil pump, but I would rather drain from the pan. I have heard of a Petcock with a valve, and a hose connected to the drainplug,

Has anyone heard of this setup? Where can I find such a thing, and what is it called??

Any other tips, besides garbage bags would help!!!

Mercruiser sells 'em. Here's a picture:

The hose connects to the pan via a "banjo valve". The hose is routed thru the bilge drain, and has a removable plug at the end (no petcock). Works well if the oil is warm.

Oh c'mon you only have to do it once a year, mines a pain too if it makes you feel better.
The quick drain hose with it's banjo nut wouldn't work on my application because the dipstick is incorporated into the oil plug with a brass block and the threads on the banjo nut wouldn't be long enough, neat though my cub cadet tractor has one of those.

Ayuh,...

I built the same contraption when I switched motors,...

It's plumbed so that I can fish the hose out the bilge plug, or take it up beside the motor,+ attach it to my pump, for dockside changes...

Be forewarned,...
If you do the gravity drain thing,..... It's Slow,.... I mean Really SLOW...

I use the hose in the pan as pictured above. ( I got mine from Overtons for about $20 or so.)

I clamped the end of the hose to the port side exhaust elbow near my oil filter.

When I drain the oil, I connect my Moeller pump (like the one shown below from Amazon.com) and after about 15 pumps on the handle it drains it in a min or so, hot or cold.

It also works great when you change the auto-trans fluid in your tow vehicle!!

I've heard many posters say that and it is curious, as I've never noticed it being incredibly slow on my engine. My engine is a complete 2003 5.7 crate engine from Mercruiser and it came equipped with the hose pictured above. While I've never actually timed it, I know it has never taken more than 10 or 15 minutes max to completely drain the oil. I simply get the drain started and then go about doing some of the other things, by the the time I am ready to refill the oil, it is done. I put the cap back on and stuff it back into the bilge. No worries. Maybe the OEM has a larger inside diameter than the aftermarket? All I know it is works well on my boat.
