I HAVE A LEAK!

I have a 95 hydra sports bass boat that is fiberglass. My dilema is this. They makers glassed in the transucer for the depth finder and now its leaking, but its not leaking in the bilge it leaks around the transducer on the bottom of the boat. Here is the question. Is the hull a solid piece of glass or is there wood in between layers? If there is just glass then the water is being held in the compartment created when they glassed in the transducer and I won't worry about it, but if there is wood then I need to patch. HELP!!!!

I,ll give it a shot, because you haven't had a response. Is your transducer mounted in the bilge? Most boats have a solid fibreglass hull, but almost all( excluding some new ones) have wood core transome. I can't see how your tranducer mounted in the hull could leak, I think there would have to a hole thu the bottom, but there will be "dam" surounding the tranducer (bilge mounted)that may collect water splashing around. If your transducer is mounted on the outside of your boat, on the transome, and you are getting water inside then you have an issue. The wood in your transome is like a sponge, it will soak up water and keep it there til the wood rots. If you can give a little more detail we can probably help more.

Jim

You answered your own question. LOL. The transducer is mounted in the hull at the bottome of the bilge, not in the transom and there is a fiberglass dam around the transducer. They did cut a hole in the bottom, but there is NO leak into the bilge, but trust me when I say around that hole where the transducer is dripped for 2 days with no water in the bilge. Thanks

"but trust me when I say around that hole where the transducer is dripped for 2 days with no water in the bilge."....yikes! if you have a wood core hull, or not, that's no good.

i'd rip that puppy out, inspect the hull and let it dry out, seal up the hole, and install a thru hull transducer that doesn't need a hole.
