i have a steering wheel is hard to trun

I have a 94 75 Yamaha 2 stroke I can steer the boat but for the most part its hard and at some points it pops like its skipping

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... Is it well greased at the tilt tube at the motor,..??

It could be ya just need a new cable,.....
The skippin' feelin' is probably the worn out gears in the helm, from the bad cable, or lack of grease at the tilt tube,...

Is it a rotary helm, or rack, 'n pinion,..??

im not sure on any of that. how would I tell? im truly sorry this is my 1st boat.

Under the dash and out of sight behind where the steering wheel is attached, you will see either rack and pinion hardware

or a rotary system
