Well, we need to know a little more before we can advise you what to get. You need to determine what are you going to use it for and what are your normal conditions.
Fishing, depth finder or both?
Lake depth (units have max depts, my old unit will not work in some deep lakes I frequent)
Mount preference, thru hull, transom
GPS combo...
There are more, take a look at any of the large outdoors stores and check what they have online, read the information. That will help you narrow down what you need then maybe we can help you "fine tune" your decision.

I fish local lakes, rivers, and anywhere I can get my boat in the water i would like to go in the ocean I would want a transom mount transducer unless there are any other better suggestions....preferrably lowrance unless there are convincing better units

The Humminbird 777c is a nice unit. I bought a Lowrance X510c its shipped to Lowrance for repair. In my mind the new Lowrance products aren`t reliable like their older units. I had an X75 that was flawless for the 7 years Ihad it.
I was going to go with the Bird this time, wish I had now.
