Re: I have no prop

I have the 275 VP and the SMC 270 can work I picked one up on ebay a couple of years ago. Google SMC 270 prop and see if that will work for you. I believe the 270 and 275 props were interchangeable. There is a short and long hub version and dependent on which you have the other pieces that secure the prop itself are different.
From the gear case it should look like:
line cutter/spacer, prop, locking tab, two pieces of spinner. There may be a plastic washer too that fits between the spinner unit and the prop hub. Michigan props has a diagram showing this arrangement on their webpage too.
there were only three styles of spinners available for the s/p drives.
the 250, 270 and 275 prop shafts all use the short spacer/line cutter.
The 280, 285, 290 and SP prop shafts all require the long spacer/line cutter.
This nets the same amount of propeller shaft for either style lower unit.

If your prop is the std hub, all should work with the full spinner.

Since the 250 and the 270 prop shafts are not drilled and threaded for the center spinner keeper bolt, the SS locking tab must be used and folded into one or two castlated areas in the spinner.
There will be just enough prop shaft protruding through the propeller hub for this locking tab keeper to index the shaft splines.

the 1 pc with no center locking bolt bore..... and will be castellated for the tab washer.
the 1 pc with the center locking bolt bore.... and I believe that most are also castellated.
the 2 pc spinner, of which will always have the center locking bolt bore, and the FWD section will be castellated.
The later one is basically a one-fits-all.

Re: I have no prop

You should probly post the gear ratio of the outdrive also it is very important to know that before deciding on a pitch.

Re: I have no prop

A heavy 23 footer with 1.6 ratio and V8, hmmm, magic 8ball shows a pitch of 15-17 depending on engine spec. I would try a 17 if it is specced like the 260hp engine, 15 if just the 230hp. This is TOTAL conjecture, but would be what I would try if it was my deal.

Since you have a 15p available to try then do that, and get some baseline numbers such as what WOT rpm can be reached, and what speed at that WOT rpm.
