As the suject reads I have read about it now have tried it. What it is, is pulling the plug wire while my 59 35 horse johnson is running. When I pull #1 the engine dies, When I pull #2 I get no change. What does this mean. Points check good and are properly gaped, Havent checked condensor yet. Compression on both cylenders are 92 PSI COLD (Need to get out there and chackl it warm) any direction would be great.

Hey Fly,
Did you pull each plug out, and with the wire attached hold the plug against the engine and crank it to see if you have spark on both? (use a rag or gloves) It sounds like one cylinder isn't firing, and doing this could determine if it is a spark problem of fuel problem. See if each plug fires equally, and if not, switch plugs into the different wires and see if it is the plug of that coil. That's a good place to start.
good luck!

If you pull the wire from nr.2 and can't tell the difference, it means nr.2 is not hitting.

c/6

Hooty

Howdy, FF.

I agree with Dutch and Hooty. Your #2 is not making power.

Since your old 35 uses one carb and dual magnetos, I'd say that your problem is almost certainly no spark.

Points or condenser are most likely suspects.

Clean and gap plugs at .030. Clean and set points at .020. Replace condensers.

Check plug wires for arcing through to the block.

If you still have no fire to #2, you can try swapping the coils, but be sure to get and use a manual for reassembling the coils to the magneto. Clearance between coil cores and flywheel is critical.

Good luck. :)

Thanks Guys,

Lets say I switch the plug wires and turn it over I guess that would mean spark on #2 was bad ? Condensor, Points, wire it self or that large Magnet looking thing (Sorry I dont know what it is called)is there any way to narrow it down. What kind of damage could I do by switching the wires for this test. (Wont it put timing out of wack)
