I have to remove the transom, is it necessary to remove motor?

Sorry if this is a dumb question I've never done this type of work. It's an 1974 aluminum boat with a mercruiser 120 hp engine and mercruiser stern drive. I would appreciate any help thanks.

remove the drive, remove the motor, remove the transom housing.

I figured that would be the case, but had to check. Thanks for the response. Out to the garage I go. By the way, I really appreciate all the knowledge you guys share here. Thanks again. I'm sure I'll be back on soon with another problem.
