And she hasn't even been in the water yet. She's a 1985 1600 Capri Cuddy. What a nice little boat. It was well taken care of, IE the gel coat shines, there are few scuff marks, the rub rail is in great shape, etc.

I have even taken up the carpet to find a (I think poor) quality skim coat of gel on a solid plywood floor. I got this boat before anything was able to be abused and rot. So..... My next move is to float test it (engine and boat) then remove all carpet on the floor and up the hull about 10 or 12 inches. Then a new layer of fiberglass and gel coat with the rough stuff in it so we don't slip and slide. My biggest complaint about boats in general is the use of carpet on floors. I want to beat the guy who sold that idea to boating public with a big heavy oar. Boats DONT NEED CARPET (removable carpet excepted). Boats DO NEED HOSEABLE FLOORS!!!!! (remove those removable carpets and have at it.)

So, anyone who has stinky (you salt water people know what I mean) or worn out carpet, just yank it all out and put in marine vinyl or just fiberglass and gel coat.

BTW, Boomyal has a great set of photos of his boat with a marine floor covering that is a wonderful replacement for carpet. Just search the restoration forum.

Will keep you posted on my progress. Should have the boat in the water for initial trials in two weeks when I have time off from work AND home. (thank you wife)
