I talked to the guy. He is the second owner, he purchased it from his uncle. Has service records, been well maintained. He added power steering a new marine battery and new tires on the trailer. The hull is in excellent condition, no accidents. Just telling you guys what the guy told me. I am going to go look at it Sunday. What do you guys think?

If everything is ok, I am going to try and see if he will take $1800.00.

The price is right. Check engine compression and the transom out..

If the motor runs well, then it should be a good deal. Check the compression on the cylinders. Check the floor and transom for soft spots.

I would tow it around the block a few times. The more poontang that looks in your direction, the more it's worth.

What is the transom? Is that where the outboard motor mounts to the boat?

Its the Rear most vertical slab of boat.

Check how this guy is strapping his boat down to the trailer. If he really cares, he should have a strap going from each of the transom eyes to the rear of the trailer, the winch should be tight, along with a strap going from the bow eye to the trailer. In addition, a chain from the trailer to bow eye would be good also.

I see people towing all the time with nothing more than the winch, and these are the same people who go full on into a beach to park there, never raise their motor when they should, and always overload their boats.

Try an get someone you know, who has experience with boats, to help you check it out. He can spot things that ain't right, that you would not think of. Their is no Beating experience. Since you do not know what a transom is. You SHOULD get some help. Happy Boating

Check that wakeboard tower real close and see just how they mounted it to the boat. There should be backing plates to distribute the stress. Also, make sure it is through bolted and not just screwed down.

I am going to go look at the boat right now. The guy isn't there, he went on vacation, but he said I can go to his house to look at the boat. I am going to take my digital camera with me and take pics. I will post them here, so you guys can get a better idea on what I am looking at.

Ok, I took some pics of the boat I might buy. Pretty decent boat for the price as far as I'm concerned. Here is a link to the 40-50 pics I took.

The hull looks solid, I knocked on it and there are no differences in sound while knocking. I pulled on the outboard to check the transom and it feels solid and does not flex. The prop spins freely and I pulled on it back and forth, in and out, its solid with no play. i didn't check the inside for soft spots but I will once the guy comes back from his vacation.

Tell me what you guys think.

I'm with hiflyer on this. Don't forget that the sellers objective is to take money out of your pocket and put it into his. We get lots of posts where they guy starts out by saying "Well the seller told me - - - " and then the tale of woe begins.

I also forgot to mention that the V6 Merc on the boat has 3 carbs.

Take the hydrofoil off of the AV plate. You may want some trim tabs of some sort, but definitely lose the 'foil.

Change the impeller, the lower unit lube, and get a grease gun and hit ALL of the grease fittings on the OB.

Get the engine warm and then do a compression check. If you find some low readings, then do a search for decarb and perform this procedure.

BTW, the V-6 Merc actually has 3 sets of carbs (6 total). It's a good motor. Keep us posted!

That looks like a fun old boat. I love the speed boat styling.
