Glad we got the mini van with the dvd player. they are 12,8 and almost 2. This will be the first time my parents have seen the baby and the first time in about 6 years for the other 2. wish me luck

Good for you and them!

Hopefully you will stretch driving to at least 2 1/2 days each way. If you push too hard, everyone will be tired and it will be less fun.

Good luck.

pack only what you need, you are lucky they are boys. take a milk jug, with the cap. don't give them cokes or candy. make a place where they can nap. and let the 2 older ones swap being co pilot. you will know all the songs in the kids movies by the time you get home.

Good luck with that :) Been there done that.Moved from Wisconsin to Florida.
Mom and grandma flew down.Yes, mother in-law moved with us.(sob)
I drove down with the kids. Planned a 5 day journey. We stopped and checked out as much interesting stuff as we could. Our 5 day trip turned into 7. The thing that impressed me the most was how my oldest stepped up and helped with the younger 2. No coaxing or bribing on my part. It just happened. I was so proud and grateful. I'm sure you're oldest will step up to the plate. Kids can really suprise you sometimes. Happy trails!

Re: I must be nuts

Well tomorrow morning at ~0430 we are leaving on the trip. My wife talked me out of taking the baby this trip. She said it wouldnt be fair to him to keep him strapped in the car seat for that long(I hate it when she is right). I am torn but know the older 2 and I will be able to make better time and enjoy the sights. Well I will post hw it went when I return.

If the boys don't know how to read a map, teach them before you leave. They can be a big help and they will enjoy looking for the next town, cross road, etc.

Great idea, this will be an opportunity to teach the lads a million things.

I actually envy you this trip. (curiously, I'm not offering to swap places!!:D)
Enjoy every second of it, even the stress times, you are in heaven and the time passes at the speed of light. :)

Re: I must be nuts

We made it. Had a great time kids had fun. I was able to show them my old stomping grounds, and land marks, they got to swim in lake Ontario, went to bev's for ice cream. Suprised mom and dad, ticked off my other siblings for the reason that I have lived out here for 7 years and none have ever picked up the phone to chat with me so I didn't go see them. The memorial service for my uncle was well done by the minister. got food products I can't get out here. Glad we got the van with DVD player so the boys could watch movies and play the playstation.
