I need a discontinued part

I need help finding a needle and spring (part 15446, for the vapor sep. float). The engine is a 1999 250EFI 3.0L, ser. # OG825943, model 1250423VD).

It blows me away that I can't buy a part for an engine that is 8 years old.

It's a discontinued part.

mercurypartsexpress.com (parts) is not up and running yet. I can order a hat and T-shirt but the parts Dept. tab just says "coming soon"

All online sites that I've gone to say the part is discontinued.
Is this a common problem with Mercury or is it all OB manufactures.
It seems that Mercury is trying to "phase out" older engines by not providing parts. And by older engines I mean less than 10 years old. Mine is a 1999 and many of the parts are discontinued.

There has got to be a way to get this $20 part even if it cost $100. Any help is appreciated.

Try Doug Russell.com they have the same parts page as Mercury.
