Ive been working on my old glasspar sefair sedan for the last few months, and I am finally to the stage where I am ready to reassemle the transom/splash well and cast aluminum trim caps...
when I removed all these pieces, they were bedded with a fairly hard bedding material.... it feels like, and is firmly flexible very much like liquid nails construction adhesive, only this stuff is chaulky white, and didnt really stick to anything, but only filled the voids very well....
the splash well was bedded against the transom with it and all the excessive gaps were filled with it before the trim pieces covered them.....

I dont know what the stuff is, but I would like to find a product like it so that I can assemble it back the same way.... OR, is there a better product?.... I am very familiar with all of the adhesive caulks, and the soft setting and elastic caulk, but I want neither... I want something that is slightly adhesive, but sets firm and only semi flexible, so it doesnt crumble and fall out over time..... any suggestions on what the original stuff might be, and a recommendation for a good substitute?

Can it be black? if so then how about butyl windshield "ribbon"? slightly adhesive permanently flexible repositionable putty.

IMHO you have two options. The 3M products 4200/5200 or What we call "Peanut Butter" Thickened Polyester or Epoxy based resin.

I understand what you are looking for. "Boatlife" life caulk is a bit lower when it comes to adhesiveness and stays flexible. Depending on exactly what your situation looks like I suppose you might even give some consideration to "Dapp 33" window glazing compound. Very low adhesive, stays fairly soft for quite a while, though it will harden over the years.
