For the life of me I cannot find a set of 6 10" plug wires for my engine 96 Johnson 225.. They have them available in 9" and 12" but not 10".. It seems that Mallory Marine wires are the top of the line and would like to get them.. Any thoughts on getting a custom DIY kit and trusting that they'll work.. I am Boeing trained in electronics and wiring so it should be a non- issue in workmanship. ..

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. .

By the wire by the foot and make your own. Done it on a trillion outboards. Maybe not a trillon but you get the point.

Ive made my own too, may times.
But, your Evinrude Part Number is 0582365 LEAD ASSY., Ignition coil @$14.99 each if you wanted what the factory wanted on there.

Well, most of my engines use points and coils that require core wires.
Your ignition system might be using the non-conductive core wires.

Whichever way, it isn't so much a kit.
NAPA sells everything you would need. 7mm copper wires, or 7mm & 8mm non-conductive, sold by the foot.
Various terminal ends are available, as are the boots. I believe the boots run $3, terminal ends $2, and the wire is $0.70-$5 a foot.

In my area, it is very rare that NAPA sell these items. Every time they ask '....what kind of car?!'
After I explain what I need, and after 15 phone calls to other employees, they find an old dusty box out back that has what I need.

You will need some type of crimper for the terminals.
However, if you're good with a pair of vice grips, it isn't entirely necessary.
here is a picture of my new plug wires and boots:

Your Evinrude dealer should carry the bulk Packard 440 spark plug wire in stock in 100' spools that is used on your motor.

So, new they are $60 for the set.
Why not just buy new ones? I mean, they fit from the factory, they will fit, why do they need to be 10"?

One thing! Make sure you use "resistor" spark plugs with any kind of metal core wire, or you'll have massive arcing, and, or, crossfiring. You may not see this in the daylight, but with a damp night it will look like a "Light Show" under the cowl!

That's good to know, and that kit looks good but I'll need 90 degree boots.

I have a J225TXEDE, what would be the part # for the resistor plugs and where would I find them?
